Frequently asked questions
General
Tokaut Blo Mi can share supportive information and encourage someone to seek urgent help, but it is not an emergency or crisis response service. If someone is in immediate danger or needs urgent mental health support, they should contact an appropriate emergency, medical, or qualified support service directly.
Tokaut Blo Mi supports communities by creating awareness campaigns, sharing helpful information, encouraging safe conversations, running events and programs, and helping communities feel more connected around mental health issues. It also encourages local participation so communities can take part in awareness in ways that suit their own setting.
Tokaut Blo Mi runs and supports mental health awareness activities such as community engagement events, public education campaigns, support circles, awareness posts, and initiatives like Paint PNG with Purpose. Programs may involve schools, churches, workplaces, community groups, and volunteers coming together to show support and raise awareness.
Schools, universities, churches, workplaces, and community groups can get involved by partnering with Tokaut Blo Mi, taking part in awareness campaigns, hosting their own community conversations or events, joining initiatives like Paint PNG with Purpose, sharing mental health information, or helping spread safe public messages.
Tokaut Blo Mi Support Programs are community-based opportunities for people to contribute to mental health awareness in practical and meaningful ways. These programs are designed for those who want to support the movement by giving their time, skills, presence, and care to help create safer conversations and stronger community connection.
Being part of a support program may include helping with events, welcoming participants, assisting with awareness activities, supporting community engagement, helping with logistics, sharing information responsibly, and contributing to the overall success of Tokaut Blo Mi initiatives.
Support Programs are not about being a counsellor or medical expert. They are about standing with the community, serving with heart, and helping create spaces where people feel included, respected, and supported.
By joining a Tokaut Blo Mi Support Program, people have the chance to grow in leadership, service, teamwork, and community contribution while helping advance mental health awareness across Papua New Guinea.
Tokaut Blo Mi helps reduce stigma by creating respectful and visible conversations around mental health. When people see others talking openly, showing compassion, and standing together, it helps challenge shame, fear, and misunderstanding. Awareness makes it easier for people to know they are not alone.
Mental health awareness is important in Papua New Guinea because mental health affects individuals, families, workplaces, schools, and communities. Many people may not have the language, knowledge, or confidence to talk about what they are going through. Awareness helps people understand that mental health is real, that support matters, and that compassion can make a difference.
